Edmonton Technical Lunch - September 18, 2008 (Thursday)

NASTT Colleagues and Friends,

Please join us for our first technical lunch of the 2008-09 season on Thursday September 18.

This month’s speakers will be Dan Willems, P.Eng. and Adam Crutchfield, P.Eng..

Dan Willems is an environmental engineer with Stantec Consulting Ltd. in Edmonton. He has been working in the environmental infrastructure industry across the prairies for the past 7 years, specializing in municipal water and sewer infrastructure. Dan has a B.Sc. degree in civil engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGGA.

Adam Crutchfield is a project manger with Insituform Technologies Ltd. and is responsible for 4 lining crews and 3 prep crews in Western Canada. Adam has been with Insituform since 2004 and in that time has managed the installation of over 120 km of Insituform liners. Adam has been involved in sewer, pressure pipe and forcemain applications with the majority of his work being in municipal sewer environments. Adam graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 and is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGGA.

Dan and Adam will be speaking about the St. Albert Butterfield Storm Sewer CIPP Rehabilitation project which was the largest municipal storm sewer lined in Western Canada and one of the largest pipes ever lined by Insituform crews based in Edmonton. This project represents an excellent example of the advantage of trenchless technology over conventional construction methods through fully developed urban areas. The project was completed on a tight schedule, with significantly less surface disruption and public impact, and at less expense than would have been possible with conventional open cut construction methods given the specific site constraints.
