NASTT Colleagues and Friends

Please join us for the fifth technical lunch of the 2016-2017 season on Thursday, March 22nd, 2018.

This month’s presentation will be discussing the Rehabilitation of the McDougall Hill Road & Grierson Hill Road Storm Trunk by Ultraviolet (UV) Light Cured Fiberglass Reinforce Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP).

Trenchless methods for sewer pipeline rehabilitation have grown in popularity over the last few years in the attempt to reduce the high cost, public impacts, and site challenges of traditional ‘open cut’ method.

This presentation will focus on the rehabilitation of a steep grade 1050mm storm outfall pipeline using Ultraviolet (UV) Light Cured Fiberglass Reinforce Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) in the City of Edmonton at Outfall Number 47 which discharges directly into the North Saskatchewan River. The project was successful completed in November 2016.

The presentation will present the process of UV CIPP; design considerations; project specific risks and challenges encountered during construction; project achievements; and highlight the many benefits of the technology.

This month’s presenters Ron Lyle and Michael Kan. Ron is the Operations Director of Infrahydro. Ron graduated from University of Ottawa in 1996 with a Baccalaureate in Applied Sciences in Civil Engineering. He is a professional engineer with over 20 years of successful project management experience in industrial and municipal engineering and design. He is the Responsible Member for InfraHydro’s APEGA Permit to Practice. His experience includes strategic planning and infrastructure management as well as in the analysis, design and construction/rehabilitation of civil infrastructure.

Michael Kan graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Middlesex in England in 1988.
